Eric Ladin Talks About His New Movie “Where the Crawdads Sing”
Actor Eric Ladin has established himself as one of the most adaptable performers in the industry, making him the ideal character for any and all screens, whether he is on the little screen or the big screen.
Ladin talked to Padrisimo Magazine about Netflix’s “Ozark”, as well as the film adaptation of the bestselling novel by Candice Owens, “Where the Crawdads Sing,” starring Reese Witherspoon.
Tell us a bit more about yourself
E: First and foremost, I am a husband and a father. I am originally from Texas, where my wife and I both have family and visit often. When I'm not working, I am happiest outdoors, preferably golfing.
What was it like to be part of the grand finale of such a great television series as “Ozark”?
E: Fantastic. I have been fortunate to be part of many great productions, and “Ozark” was no different. From the top down, it was run beautifully, and that is why it has been such a successful show.
Many fans were not satisfied with how it ended. Were you?
E: It's hard to please fans that are passionate about a series. As a fan, you have been watching and living with the characters for a long time, so it's hard to say goodbye. One of the things that makes this medium of serialized television difficult is the expectation to keep going. It's different than a film, where you know when you sit down it's going to be over in 2.5 hours.
Tell us about your role in “Where the Crawdads Sing”
E: Eric Chastain is an opportunistic district attorney who believes this high-profile case against Kya will put him on the map. Although unlikable because he is going after the film's hero, he is good at what he does.
How is this character like you?
E: For much of my youth and young adult life, I thought about being a litigator. I enjoy debate, and the thought of preparing and presenting a case in a courtroom to a jury has always enticed me.
Why should people see “Where the Crawdads Sing”?
E: It’s a beautiful story, and I believe there is a little bit of Kya in all of us. I loved the book, and I am so thrilled that the movie does such a great job executing the story that Delia Owens wrote.
Is there a role you have not played but would like to someday?
E: I'm still looking for a Western project.
Anything in the works that you can talk about?
E: I’m in development for a project that I am producing. It’s been a nice change to approach the work from a producorial angle; it’s a different challenge.

E: Durante gran parte de mi vida de joven y adulto joven, pensé en ser litigante. Disfruto el debate, y la idea de preparar y presentar un caso en un tribunal ante un jurado, siempre me ha atraído.
¿Por qué la gente debería ver la película?
E: Es una historia hermosa, y creo que hay un poco de ‘Kya’ en todos nosotros. Me encantó el libro y estoy muy emocionado de que la película haga un gran trabajo ejecutando la historia que escribió Delia Owens.
¿Hay algún personaje que no hayas interpretado pero que te gustaría hacer algún día?
E: Todavía estoy buscando un proyecto occidental.
¿Algún proyecto nuevo para este 2022?
E: Estoy en desarrollo para un proyecto que estoy produciendo. Ha sido un buen cambio abordar el trabajo desde un ángulo de producción; es un reto diferente.
